
Elizabeth Smith
Elizabeth Smith has several internationally recognised qualifications in horticulture and specialises in:
- Plant care.
- Garden planning and design.
- Green space and landscape management.
- Disease identification and control.
Elizabeth started her career at a local garden centre before studying for her qualifications at the prestigious Merrist Wood College in Guildford, Surrey.
After several years she moved to the Chilterns and took up a role as the head of fruit and vegetables at a large family estate before progressing to the head position. The role was varied but involved growing, maintaining and harvesting organic food for the main house, large events the owners organised and for organic and local shops.
Elizabeth has since worked full-time at RHS Wisley and is currently travelling in Asia.
Her plans for the future include studying for a degree upon her return.
Role at DIY Gardening
Elizabeth’s role at DIY Gardening is primarily to review and fact-check our plant-growing guides and related content.
She also offers remote consulting to our clients via phone and email.
Elizabeth occasionally writes for us, but her main role is advisory.
Qualifications
RHS diploma in horticulture – Merrist Wood with work experience at RHS Wisley.
Outside of Employment
Elizabeth has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys foraging for rare plants. She’s also a keen hiker and loves Asia, her favourite continent.
