DIY Gardening’s 2022/23 mental Health Scholarship Program
Despite huge leaps forward in our understanding of the human mind and significant resources being spent on healthcare, rates of suicide, depression, anxiety and substance abuse are on the rise in the US and the UK.
In the United States, suicide is the third highest cause of death for 15-24 year-olds1.
In the UK, suicide rates for females under 24 have grown at their fastest pace since records began in 19812.
Gardening and Mental Health
Several in-depth studies have revealed that gardening, tending to plants and being outdoors can significantly improve one’s mental health.
Scholarship Art Submission
Rather than writing a traditional essay, we would like for students to submit an original piece of artwork that shows how gardening can improve mental health.
This can be, but isn’t limited to:
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Video
- Special effects/graphics
- Photo
- Poem
